22-year-old shot dead in Somerville home, roommate arrested

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — A 26-year-old Somerville man is facing charges after investigators say he shot and killed a 22-year-old man who had been living with him. It happened around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday inside a two-family house on Ware Street.

Authorities swarmed the scene after getting a frantic call from a woman in a closet at the home.

“Upon arrival, which was within moments, the police observed another man outside that residence with a handgun. At the direction of the police, the man placed that gun on the ground, and he was placed under arrest,” said Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan.

That suspect, identified as 26-year-old Edson Moreno of Somerville, is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Somerville District Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and possession of a firearm.

The victim has been identified as Robert Favreau, a 22-year-old Cambridge man. Still no word on why the roommates were at odds. Police said it started as a verbal argument and escalated quickly.

The woman who called 911 from the closet is being credited for getting authorities to the scene quickly and giving a detailed account of what happened.
