PORTLAND, Maine (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The last two paintings that were stolen from a Portland, Maine businessman in 2013 have been recovered.
The N.C. Wyeth paintings “The Encounter on Freshwater Cliff” and “Go Dutton, and That Right Speedily" were recovered when a third party surrendered them to the FBI in the greater Boston area. The FBI said that person wants to remain anonymous.
Both paintings were found in good condition inside cardboard boxes and in their original frames.
The four other paintings that were stolen were found in Los Angeles last December.
In 2013, the six paintings were stolen from a businessman's apartment in Portland. In December of 2014, the FBI’s Los Angeles Division recovered four of the paintings at a pawnshop in Beverly Hills.
So far three people have been charged in connection with this investigation, Lawrence Estrella, Oscar Leroy Roberts and Dean Coroniti.The investigation remains active and more arrests are possible.
The recovered artwork will be on display at the Portland Art Museum.
