MILTON, Mass. — State police say two people have died and a third has been taken to the hospital after a fiery, early morning car crash in Milton.
Troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash on Brush Hill Road around 3:30 a.m. Friday. The Mercedes-Benz was headed northeast when it left the road and hit a tree, police said.
The vehicle caught on fire and a nearby resident who saw the crash rushed to the scene and was able to pull a 17-year-old in the backseat from the wreckage. Unfortunately, due to the fire, the good Samaritan was unable to get to the other occupants.
“A lot to regret on my part that I wasn't able to get those individuals out from that car but, some of my friends say I should feel good that I got one person out,” Andy Melhado said.
Nina Lewis, 24, who was driving, and her 23-year-old boyfriend in the passenger seat were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Lewis had three young children, ages 3, 5, and 6.
“One of them really knows what’s going on the other 2 aren’t processing it really well right now," Regina Lewis, Nina’s mother, said.
Regina said she feels for Melhado, who used a fire extinguisher to try to put out the flames before pulling the teen out of the back window by his pants.
“It was very had on him, he has that tree to look at every day, something that he tried to save someone and he couldn’t do it," she said.
The 17-year-old was taken to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.
