Time is running out to book a cheap flight for the holidays, but you may be able to find a last-minute deal for a getaway even before Thanksgiving rolls around.
Around 28% of Americans plan to take a vacation between Labor Day and Thanksgiving this year, according to AAA.

Many people consider traveling during the fall to be a best kept secret. AAA found that Americans say there are three top benefits of taking a fall trip:
- Fewer crowds and children: 68%
- Weather that is more favorable: 63%
- The opportunity to find better value for the cost of their trip: 55%
“Savvy travelers can often find lower prices on everything from airfare and hotels to cruises and vacation packages, as travel companies offer incentives to fill their vacancies during the fall,” said Bill Sutherland, AAA senior vice president, Travel and Publishing.

The majority of fall travelers will stay within the United States, with Orlando, California, Hawaii and New York the most popular destinations, according to AAA bookings.
This year’s top fall destinations based on AAA bookings include:
- Orlando, Florida
- Rome, Italy
- Anaheim, California
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- New York City
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- London, England
- Dublin, Ireland
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Cancun, Mexico
Fall festivals and visits to parks are especially popular with travelers this time of year — with more than a quarter of vacationers planning to check out fall foliage.
