Eagles beat Patriots to win Super Bowl LII

The New England Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota Sunday night.

Boston 25 News covered the game from all angles, with a team of reporters in Minnesota and around the Boston area.

In the final minutes New England had a chance to win, but was unable to drive the length of the field. Below you will find a live blog of the game. To go back to the start of the game, scroll to the bottom of this post.

11:00 p.m.: 

During a post game interview, tight end Rob Gronkwoski was asked about a report from earlier in the day that claimed he would retire.

“I’m going to look at my future for sure. I’ll sit down in the next couple weeks and see where I’m at,” Gronk said. “I’m not ready for these type of questions right now. I’m just going to sit down and reflect on the season and probably talk to my roommates. We fought all year long, all the receivers, running backs, linemen, we put all the work in together. I'm just going to reflect on the season, I'm proud of the boys, and we'll see what happens from there."

10:45 p.m.:

Quarterback Tom Brady was dejected in a news conference. "It's tough to lose these games, but you can't lose the game if you're not in the game," he said. "You play to win the game, but sometimes you lose."

Coach Bill Belichick also spoke to reporters: "We put best players out there and the game plan out there that we thought would be the best tonight."

10:18 p.m.: 

The Patriots had about one minute to go when they got the ball, but they were unable to get to the end zone. Final score 41-33.

The final play of the game was a Hail Mary to Gronk in the end zone but the tight end was not able to come up with the ball.

10:10 p.m.:

The Patriots held the Eagles to a field goal after Brady's fumble. Eagles lead by eight, 41-33.

10:04 p.m.:

With 2:15 left in the quarter and down by 5 points, Tom Brady was sacked and fumbled the ball.

10:00 p.m.:

The Eagles retook the lead with 2:21 left to go in the game. The touchdown pass was reviewed because after crossing the plane of the end zone, running back Corey Clement lost control of the ball. The review upheld the ruling on the field. After a failed 2-point conversion the eagles lead 38-33.

9:35 p.m.:

Patriots take the lead! A 6-yard pass to Gronk in the end zone and a MADE extra point from Gostkowski puts the Patriots up for the first time this game 33-32.

9:25 p.m.: 

Patriots get a third down stop and hold the Eagles to a field goal for the first score of the 4th quarter. Score 32-26, Patriots remain within one touchdown.

9:10 p.m.: 

The Patriots quickly answered the Eagles touchdown with one of their own to Chris Hogan. Extra point is good, Pats back within one score 29-23.

9:03 p.m.:

On official review, the touchdown call was confirmed. The extra point was good, giving the Eagles a 29-19 lead.

8:58 p.m.:

The Eagles appear to have scored on another Nick Foles pass. The play is being reviewed.

Cornerback Malcolm Butler still has not entered the game. Earlier this week he told Tom Leyden he had been dealing with an illness.

8:45 p.m.:

On the opening drive of the second half, Tom Brady hit Rob Gronkowski for several passes including a touchdown! Kicker Stephen Gostkowski also hit his extra point, Patriots trail by three, 22-19.

8:33 p.m.:

Justin Timberlake opened his halftime show with the song Rock Your Body, the song he was singing during Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction.

He sang several of his biggest hits, as well as "I Would Die 4 U" as a tribute to Minneapolis superstar musician Prince.

8:02 p.m.:

The Eagles scored with an impressive play that ended with Nick Foles receiving the touchdown pass. The kick is good and Eagles lead Patriots 22-12 at halftime.

7:52 p.m.:

Running Back James White takes it to the house after breaking a few tackles. The extra point from Gostkowski was, however, no good. Patriots trail 12-15 with 2 minutes left in the half.

7:44 p.m.

The New England Patriots get the first turnover of the game with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. After an interception by Duron Harmon the Patriots have the ball on the 10 yard line to start their drive.

7:20 p.m.:

Patriots receiver Brandin Cooks took a hard helmet-to-helmet hit after making a completion in the second quarter. He was able to walk off the field and immediately went back to the locker room.

Several minutes later the Patriots announced that he would not return.

7:12 p.m.:

The Patriots second drive ended with a missed field goal. The place holder struggled to field the snap, and Gostkowski's kick went off the left upright.

On third and two, the Patriots ran a jet sweep with WR Brandin Cooks. Cooks attempted to hurdle a defender but got caught up and was tackled.

6:58 p.m.:

Nick Foles aired out a 43-yard pass for the end zone, connecting with Alshon Jeffery for a touchdown, however Jake Elliot missed the extra point. With 2:34 remaining in the quarter Eagles lead 9-3.

Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler has yet to take the field in the game. He did miss practice earlier this week with the flu.

6:53 p.m.: 

The Patriots first drive of the game also ended in a field goal... tie game at 3 with 4:35 left in the first quarter.

6:41 p.m.:

he Eagles opening drive of the game took more than seven minutes off the clock but ended with a field goal. With 7:35 to play in the first quarter the Eagles lead 3-0.

The first commercial break started with a Toyota ad for those following prop bets, it also featured a teaser for the upcoming "Solo: A Star Wars Story" movie.

6:30 p.m.:

The Patriots have won the coin flip and decided to defer. The Eagles will therefore receive the opening kickoff. The Patriots will start receiving the ball after halftime. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Patriots are 8-1 this season when they won the toss.

6:00 p.m.:

With 30 minutes to halftime the pregame ceremonies are beginning. The coin flip and National Anthem are expected shortly!

5:30 p.m.:

With one hour until kickoff, Patriots players are on the field warming up. Boston 25 crews at the game said Tom Brady was booed as he walked into the turf.

4:30 p.m.:

The New England Patriots have released their list of inactive players. Most notably are running back Mike Gillislee, defensive tackle Alan Branch, and line backer David Harris.

The Eagles have also released their inactive players list, which includes running back Wendell Wmallwood and tackle Destiny Vaeao.

4 p.m.:
