Pedro Martinez hopes to be more involved with Red Sox in 2018

DEDHAM — As Red Sox fans come to terms with an early exit from the postseason, questions surrounding the 2018 season already dominate the headlines.

One piece of good news - it sounds like Pedro Martinez wants to be more involved with the Red Sox front office moving forward.

Pedro's wife, Carolina, joined me in studio on Tuesday to promote the Pedro Martinez Charity Gala, and during the conversation, suggested her husband is ready, willing and able to do more to assist in Boston.

"I think Pedro's going to be much more involved next year, hopefully in the front office," said Carolina. "He's willing to help the young talent that's coming up and he's willing to bring, maybe, some other new players to the 2018 season."

Martinez famously convinced the Red Sox to give David Ortiz a chance prior to the 2003 season and more recently has worked with Yankees pitcher Luis Severino, so his eye for talent and ability to improve players' performances on the field is well-documented.

"This is a really young team," said Carolina Martinez. "I think the future looks bright. I think they're going to work on the balance of the team as to how it should look in 2018. So I think Pedro's going to play kind of a big role next year. Hopefully we'll be here a little bit more time in Boston because we love to be here, especially during baseball season. Let's see. Let's see what happens in Spring Training."
