The Patriots are looking to fill the void left by Rob Gronkowski's retirement, and they made a step in that direction by officially signing tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

The team announced they had signed the unrestricted free agent Wednesday afternoon, going along with the news that they had re-signed kicker Stephen Gostkowski for next season. Gostkowski's deal is reportedly for two years.

Seferian-Jenkins was a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to start his career.

He was released by the Buccaneers in the fall of 2016, and was then claimed off waivers by the Patriots' AFC East rival, the New York Jets.
Seferian-Jenkins played one year with the Jets before heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars for one season, and now takes his talents from Florida back up north to join the Patriots.
The terms of Seferian-Jenkins' deal were not announced.
