Edelman leaves field early with apparent injury

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — It was a potential setback for Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman as he left the practice field early Tuesday with an apparent injury.

As the Pats were practicing with the New Orleans Saints, Edelman completed individual drills, then quickly removed himself from team activities.

He was assessed by the training staff on a cart and then left the field. The staff appeared to be looking at Edelman's lower leg/foot area before he left the field in frustration.

Edelman underwent surgery to repair broken bones in his foot during the offseason. He was initially injured in the Patriots win over the Giants during the 2015 regular season. He returned to play in the postseason but underwent surgery after the season.

Also on Tuesday, linebacker Rob Ninkovich was seen walking off the practice field shaking his head after being shaken up.

Butch Stearns is in Foxboro and will have the latest throughout the day.
