BOSTON — It's a tumultuous time in women's hockey, as many of the world's top players have chosen to boycott the National Women's Hockey League, the only professional women's hockey league.
These players have formed their own union, the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, and will play this winter in a barnstorming fashion in cities around North America. Meanwhile, the NWHL forges forward in its fifth season, with the Boston Pride trying to set a new tone for how the players are treated.
