Firehouse Friday: Malden Fire Department

This week was Fire Prevention Week. Often, we think of this week as a time for children to learn fire safety tips at school. But, adult education is just as important. Malden Fire Department along with several other departments across the state, opened their doors this week and invited residents of all ages in to learn about the importance of fire safety and prevention.

Malden Fire Department’s main message this year is to check the date of smoke detectors and ensure that they are within their 10 year life expectancy and working properly. If they are not, it’s an easy replacement that will help keep families safe.  The residential environment is changing dynamically for the fire service.  Home are much tighter in an effort to conserve energy and furnishings ignite and burn faster than they used to. These reasons, among others, give people less time to escape from their homes should a fire start. Therefore, ensuring that smoke detectors are working is crucial.

If you have questions about smoke detectors or any other fire prevention concerns, contact your local fire department!  Thank you to the Malden Fire Department for keeping the community safe and opening your doors to educate the community!
