METHUEN, Mass. — Here’s a pet you likely haven’t considered adding to your family -- a peacock!
If you feel it’s time for that to change, opportunity may be knocking.
Named Prewitt by the staff at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), the young peacock was rescued after found wandering around Marshfield. The MSPCA said on its Facebook page Thursday that Prewitt was taken to MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen, where he is now available for adoption.
The MSPCA said it knows the bird is young because he has not developed his full train yet. His colorful, long feathers will develop when he is about 3 years old. The MSPCA said peacocks shed their train every year after mating season.
If you want to adopt Prewitt, the MSPCA said some special accommodations will be needed to care for this good-looking guy, including an enclosed coop or aviary to keep him safe as mature peacocks can fly.
