FALL RIVER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Fall River police are looking for a suspect they believe is responsible for throwing a knife at a young girl and holding a teen at knife-point Friday.
At about 6:35 p.m., Fall River police responded to the area of Peckham Street to investigate a report of two suspicious men. Once they arrived, police found a 9-year-old girl who said she was approached by a man while playing in her yard. She says he whistled at her and a friend and asked if they wanted to get in his van where he had candy. The young girl says a black van with a Hello Kitty sticker on the left rear window was following the man.
The girl says she screamed, which prompted the man to throw a knife at her. She was hit in the arm and the man fled.
The suspect was described as a white man who is about 5'7" to 5'9" tall with long hair. He was wearing black clothing, a green plaid jacket and appears to be in his 20s.
Later that day, at about 11:20 p.m., an 18-year-old woman said she was approached by a man after leaving the Tedeschi's on East Main Street. He asked to use her cell phone to make a call and she obliged. When he walked away with her phone and she followed, the man grabbed her and held a knife to her neck. He then led her for several blocks until police say she was able to push him away. The man then got into a blue mini-van that was following them.
That suspect was described as a man in his 20s who stands about 5' 8"to 5'10" tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He was wearing dark pants, a dark hooded sweatshirt and has brown eyes.
Police believe the same suspect is involved in both incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Fall River Police Department's Major Crimes Division at 508-324-2796.
