WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester residents say having an Airbnb in the area is changing the neighborhood for the worse.
Solange Silva has been renting out rooms in her Zenith Driver home for the past eight months. Silva told FOX25 that she isn't breaking any laws and is actually helping to promote the city of Worcester by showing strangers how welcoming and safe it is.
Residents disagree. Neighbors told FOX25 they were fed up with the loud and noisy people that end up renting out the rooms.
According to the Worcester Telegram, the City Council recommended seeking an injunction against the homeowner and creating a law that bans anyone from renting out their home unless they live in a commercially-zoned area.
SIlva told FOX25 she would stop renting out the rooms if the law changed.
PAST AIRBNB CONTROVERSY
This isn't the first time Airbnb has been at the center of a local controversy.
Earlier this month, Lynnfield city officials told a homeowner to stop posting his home on the site after the group he rented his home to threw a party that left one man dead.
In Lynnfield, posting on Airbnb is against city zoning laws.
