PAXTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – An off-duty Worcester County Sheriff's deputy was arrested following a standoff in Paxton.
Family members of Sgt. Bruce Bazinet called local police, asking for a well-being check.
When police and a sheriff's employee arrived, a standoff ensued.
Officials say that Sgt. Bazinet was taken into custody peacefully. He was taken to an area hospital to be checked out and will remain out of work indefinitely.
STATEMENT FROM WORCESTER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
The Worcester County Sheriff's Office released the following statement regarding an incident involving an employee of the Worcester County Sheriff's Office that occurred on Sunday, July 29, 2012:
In the evening of July 29th, our department received notification from the Paxton Police Department that they were being dispatched to the home of an employee of the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, at the request of his family, to perform a general wellness check on the individual. The individual was later confirmed to be Sgt. Bruce Bazinet.
The employee was not on duty and was not scheduled to work until the following day. At the request of the Paxton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police, WCSO dispatched personnel to the scene to provide support and further background information to assist with defusing the situation.
Shortly after 8:30PM, we received notification from the scene that Sgt. Bazinet had been taken into police custody without incident. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and will remain out of work indefinitely.
