FRYEBURG, Maine. — A Maine woman is spending her Christmas Eve keeping homeless animals company.
It's part of her effort to raise money for the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter. Her niece is joining her for the second annual event.
"I did this last year for the first time and raised $10,758...currently, this year we are at $12,718," she said.
The money will go toward helping the shelter build a "living room" atmosphere in the basement. Cloutier explains on her GoFundMe page that for animals that have been at the shelter a long time or have stresses, the area will be very helpful.

"The idea is that volunteers will take these animals down into the living room where they can sit on a comfy leather couch or chair (easier to keep clean and sanitary), maybe watch a movie on the dvd player, scratch a belly, or just be there while the animals have some time away from their kennels and condos," she wrote.
Cloutier's goal is not just help the animals on Christmas Eve, but improve their day to day lives at the shelter.
"An hour or so out of their kennels and condos could make shelter life so much more bearable for these animals," she wrote.
She said she will post videos of their Christmas Eve at Harvest Hills Animal Shelter on the shelter's Facebook page. You can donate here.
