Woman seriously injured after being struck by car in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. — A 20-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car in Worcester on Tuesday evening.

Police said the crash happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Grafton Street. Police and fire crews responded to the scene.

The victim of the crash has only been identified as a 20-year-old woman. Police said she sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital.

Witnesses said they heard the commotion and rushed to the pedestrian's aid.

Within an hour after Boston 25 News arrived at the scene, a man was seen leaving with police in a cruiser on the passenger seat. The man was not under arrest, but his relationship to the woman is still unclear.

The man who left with police was seen sitting on the sidewalk sobbing for several minutes when our crews arrived on scene.

A few people also ran to the scene less than an hour later, but were quickly ushered away.

The driver remained on scene, and the entire area has been blocked off.

An investigation is currently underway.
