Woman publishes prison letter from James 'Whitey' Bulger

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- A woman who received a prison letter from "Whitey" Bulger is now making the letter public.

According to the Globe, the former Southie mob boss wrote to Alison McLennan shortly after he was captured in 2011.
    
McLennan is a Quincy native who had written a book partially based on Bulger.

In the letter, he tells a story about how he and former girlfriend Catherine Grieg helped a family in Utah during their first year on the run from police in 1995.

Bulger writes, "I remember being in a mall - we were looking at puppies in pet store - there was a little boy with his mother who wanted a certain puppy - we bought it for him."
    
Bulger is serving two life sentences for racketeering.
