MEDFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A woman nearly drowned in a Medford pond Wednesday.
A woman in her 70s was at Wright's Pond with her husband when she nearly drowned. One of the witnesses was a 12-year-old boy who says he first noticed the woman in trouble, and called for help.
"When she was swimming, she was like moving her arms in a funny way, like she was trying to gasp for air almost," Deion DeGraca said.
He went on to say, "She went under water for a good minute or two and I know most people can't hold their breath for that long. Then I saw bubbles blowing, I know that's usually not a good sign."
He then ran to grab a lifeguard. The woman was not conscious or breathing when paramedics arrived on the scene.
It is unclear if the woman is from Medford, but you do need a resident's pass to get into the pond. Those at the beach Wednesday say the couple was friendly, but didn't speak much English.
The woman is in critical condition at Mass. General Hospital. Her name has not been released yet.
