Police: Woman attacked by town employee at Plymouth park

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A woman is in the hospital after allegedly being assaulted by a Plymouth town employee Thursday.

FOX25 has learned that the woman was at Morton Park around 3 p.m. when the alleged stabbing and sexual assault occurred.

According to Plymouth Police Department, several 911 call came in reporting a woman screaming around that time. When officers arrived on scene, they said they found a woman had been assaulted and stabbed several times.

Police say they searched the area and found Daryl Moyer, 28. Police say he was taken into police custody, while the victim, a 39-year-old woman, is in the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The woman was attacked while running in the park, according to police.

Robin Ireland stopped the man helped the woman escape.

"My concern was to get her out of that situation, she looked very scared and very injured," Ireland said.

Police said several people called 911 -- including the suspect himself. The suspect allegedly told dispatchers he did something "stupid" and "[I] tried to rape a woman, but didn't have the courage."

In court, a doctor testified he was mentally fit to understand the charges.

Police say when they interviewed Moyer, he told them he has a "sex addiction, which consists of powerful urges to have sex with females."

Neighbors tell FOX25 they often spend time at the park and are surprised to hear about something like this.

“I think it's pretty crazy. I've been coming for a few years and never seen anything happen,” Aiden Morrison said. “I'm very surprised seems like nothing around here ever happens and I never see any issues around here."

Moyer has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, intent to rape, indecent assault, armed with intent to murder and threats to commit murder.

Moyer is being held on $100,000 cash bond.
