Wilmington superintendent resigns after OUI arrest

WILMINGTON, Mass. — The Wilmington Public Schools superintendent has resigned in the wake of an OUI arrest.

Decision was announced after Delai met with members of the Wilmington School Committee for more than three hours behind closed doors Monday night.

Superintendent Mary DeLai was arrested in August, but news of the arrest did not break until this weekend. It is unclear when the School Committee learned of the charges.

“I apologize and take responsibility for my decisions. I regret the disappointment I have caused for my family, friends, colleagues, and members of this community. I also apologize for not disclosing this information myself, but it has been a difficult time for me and my loved ones, one that we had hoped to deal with privately,” DeLai said.

The search for a new superintendent will begin immediately.
