Where to watch the solar eclipse for free in Boston

BOSTON — There are several free viewing parties and events happening in Massachusetts around the solar eclipse even though the sun will only be 63 percent obscured.

LIBRARIES

Boston Central Library 2 p.m.

- View the partial solar eclipse from the courtyard, watch live stream from along the path and visit activity station to learn morea about the eclipse. Glass will be provided

South End Adams & Mattapan Libraries 2 p.m.

- Enjoy sun tea, cookies and crafts for kids while waiting for the eclipse. A few number of glasses will be provided.

UNIVERSITIES

MIT Kresge Oval, across from the Student Center 1:30 p.m.

- There will be eclipse glass at the event and two telescopes with special features.

Northeastern University 1:30 p.m.

- There will be viewing cards and faculty from the Physics Department to answer questions

MUSEUM

Boston Children's Museum - 1:30 p.m.

- Along with a few pair of glasses to be shared, there will also be crafts and activities
