(MyFoxBoston.com) -- A new study aimed at finding out what Americans fear says a lot of adults are afraid of corruption of government officials, cyber-terrorism, and corporate tracking of personal information, just to name a few.
California's Chapman University released their second annual Survey of American Fears last week, Newser reported. They polled 1,541 adults, asking them about 89 fears that fall into the following categories: personal fears, natural disasters, paranormal fears, and drivers of fear behavior. Those who took part were asked to score the fear from 1 to 4, with 1 being the least afraid on the scale.
These 10 fears had the highest percentage of adults feeling scared:
- Corruption of government officials: 58.0%
- Cyber-terrorism: 44.8%
- Corporate tracking of personal information: 44.6%
- Terrorist attacks: 44.4%
- Government tracking of personal information: 41.4%
- Bio-warfare: 40.9%
- Identity theft: 39.6%
- Economic collapse: 39.2%
- Running of out money in the future: 37.4%
- Credit-card fraud: 36.9%
Some other things the study found that caused fear in people were reptiles, public speaking, and drones.
