(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S.
To raise awareness, people around the U.S. are wearing "Purple for a Purpose" Friday, in honor of "World Pancreatic Cancer Day".
Besides wearing purple, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is offering photos for social media and is asking that people use #PurpleforaPurpose on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Only six percent of Americans diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive more than five years, according to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. An estimated 73 percent of Americans will die within the first year of diagnosis.
