While opposing work schedules may seem like a disadvantage for parents who wish to eat family meals with their children, one Minnesota man made the most of his family's situation by making his wife feel included in the moments she missed while she was at work.
Eric Bruce, 30, and his son, Jack, started making the lip-syncing videos shortly after Jack was born in December 2014. The father-son duo used an app called Dubsmash to create dozens of short and adorable clips to send to Bruce's wife, Priscilla, when she returned to her nighttime and weekend hours as a makeup artist.
But the videos didn't only serve the purpose of entertaining Priscilla. Eric said they were instrumental in building a close relationship between him and his son.
"It was a little glimpse into the past year of raising a baby and having good times together and bonding as father and son," he said. "And making sure his mom was happy and in the loop after going back to work. It's the equivalent of updating her with a picture, but trying to do something a little more special."
Priscilla, 31, said she loves receiving the videos.
"It just makes me laugh out loud," she said. "It's really like a bright spot in my day, (and) it was reassuring that everything was OK at home."
In two scenes, Jack, who noticeably grows older in the videos, smashes food with a spoon to Dana Carvey's "Choppin' Broccoli" and has a cranky moment while Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" plays in the background.
"I had a blast, and it's a great way to bond with him and learn how to be a dad and what to do with a baby when you're alone with a baby for the day," Eric Bruce said.
