Man wanted by Waltham Police turns himself in to authorities

WALTHAM, MASS. — A man wanted by police in Waltham turned himself into authorities on Tuesday morning.

Officials were searching for 29-year-old Darren Dyette, who was wanted in connection with an assault that occurred early Monday morning on Fourth Avenue in Waltham.

Police said Dyette turned himself in without incident and was ordered held without bail Tuesday afternoon.

He is being charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation, two counts of witness intimidation, assault and battery on a household member, threat to commit a crime with intention to murder and malicious destruction of property.

Police said on Monday Dyette was considered armed and dangerous due to mention of a firearm at the scene. Police say he has a lengthy criminal history.

Waltham Public Schools were placed in a soft lockdown due to the manhunt as a way to limit visitors to the buildings. That has since been cleared and officials say the school day has resumed as normal.
