BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Walgreens officials are scheduled to appear before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday seeking permission to sell alcohol at its new store in Downtown Crossing.
According to Boston Business Journal, the officials want
to sell beer, wine, and spirits in a 1,500-square-foot section of the store's
mezzanine.
George Coorssen, a member of Midtown Park Plaza Neighborhood Association, told
the publication that most of the residents are on board with the idea because
Walgreens is planning to offer high-end wines, and also because there are no
other alcohol stores in that area.
The 24,000-square-foot Walgreens also plans to offer other high-end amenities, including hand-rolled sushi, a juice
bar, eyebrow grooming, as well as fresh fruits,
vegetables, sandwiches and salads.
The new Walgreens is scheduled to open at the former Borders location on School Street by
the end of 2012.
