UPS driver cited for crash that left packages scattered across woods

WEST TISBURY, Mass. — A tree limb ripped the roof off a UPS truck that crashed into the woods in West Tisbury, Police Sergeant Garrison Vieira told Boston 25 News.

Vieira said the truck was heading north on Old Country Road just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when the driver crossed to the opposite side of the road and barreled into the woods.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 35-year-old Dennis Cleary.

An ambulance crew treated Cleary at the scene and released him.

MV Times reports packages were scattered across the woods. A second UPS truck came to the scene to collect the packages.

Vieira said Cleary was issued a citation for impeded operation.

"We’re investigating the situation and thankful that our driver is safe," a UPS spokesperson told Boston 25 News.
