Up to 6 gallons of paint dumped on busy Walpole street

WALPOLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A senseless prank caused costly damage in Walpole and on Thursday, police are trying to find the drivers who may have been victims.

Detectives told only FOX25 that a man dumped several gallons of paint onto Plimpton Street at the commuter train bridge on Wednesday night. Several drivers went through the paint puddle, before an officer could stop them, causing damage to their cars. That same officer was able to find a piece of evidence that lead investigators right to the person who they say did it.

Police found labels that were ripped off up to six gallons of paint in a Walmart bag near the scene.

Chief Carmichael said, "They were able to scan the labels and link that sale to two individuals who went through earlier in the night and purchased several gallons of paint."

Police were then able to question both men. One of the men, James Johnson, was not charged, but the other, Michael Goode, was arrested.

People in the neighborhood are frustrated that someone would do something so senseless.

Resident Patty Cavanaugh said, "It's really a shame because you would think they had better things to do during the day or evenings than mischief like this."

Goode is being held until he is scheduled to return to court Friday.

Walpole Police are urging people to come forward if they think they had any damage to their cars.

"A lot of people probably just drove through that paint and didn't realize that it may have caused damage," Carmichael said.
