TS Kennedy returns home from hurricane relief

On a crisp morning in Massachusetts, the TS Kennedy returned to Buzzards Bay.

The vessel left Massachusetts on Sept. 6 to head to Virginia for Hurricane Irma relief, but FEMA sent it to Texas after Harvey hit, then to Puerto Rico after Maria.

"This was a very off year with all the storms, with three back-to-back hurricane and that was where the different ports came from," said Michael Campbell, master of the training ship.

The devastation in Puerto Rico was catastrophic and the entire island was left without power. Forty-five days later, only 41 percent of the island has power restored.

Without power and running water to most of the island, the TS Kennedy was crucial to FEMA's response.

Less than a week from Thanksgiving, the crew has returned to their own families, grateful for the blessings here at home.
