Teen who threw 6-year-old boy from art museum’s 10th floor sentenced to 15 years in prison

LONDON — The teen who threw a 6-year-old boy from the 10th floor of a London art museum will spend at least 15 years in custody for attempted murder.

Jonty Bravery, 18, admitted in December that he hurled the boy off the balcony in August. Police said the teen picked up the child and threw him from the 10th floor of the Tate Modern gallery, CNN reported. The child was found on a fifth-floor roof.

Bravery’s parents sent letters to the court that he was diagnosed with autism, according to the BBC.

The child survived the 100-foot fall but suffered catastrophic injuries, including a bleed on the brain. He remains in a wheelchair and needs round-the-clock care.

According to CNN, Bravery admitted that he threw the victim to kill him and he would be on the news.

“The fear he (the victim) must have experienced and the horror his parents felt are beyond imagination,” said Central Criminal Court Judge Maura McGowan. “You had intended to kill someone that day. You almost killed that 6-year-old boy.”

McGowan acknowledged expert evidence that Bravery presents “a grave and immediate risk to the public.”

“You will spend the greater part - if not all - of your life detained. ... You may never be released,” she said.

Bravery watched the 20-minute hearing via video link from Broadmoor Hospital. He sat impassively, and occasionally placed his hands behind his head.
