HEATH SPRINGS, S.C. — Skeletal remains were found in Heath Springs, South Carolina last week, and they were identified as those of a man who went missing in 2021.
A deer hunter located skeletal remains in a wooded area near Heath Springs last week, according to WSOC. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was able to identify the remains as those a man who had been missing since Nov. 2021.
LCSO told WSOC that the authorities went to the area by Beaver Creek Road on Sunday morning, after the deer hunter alerted LCSO about the remains. Crime scene investigators were also called out to the area and located a shoe and some clothing, which were transported to the coroner’s office along with the remains.
LCSO investigators believed that the remains belonged to Thomas Edward Hannah, 59. He was reported missing in Nov. 2021, according to WSOC. The coroner’s office tracked down his medical records and arranged a CT scan to be done, which positively identified the remains as Hannah.
According to WSOC, the coroner’s office report said Hannah’s medical condition made him disoriented. It also said that “exposure to the elements and low temperatures led to his death.”
No foul play is suspected, LCSO told WSOC.
