Five batches of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula have been recalled “due to the potential for cross-contamination with cronobacter sakazakii,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall of the formula is “out of an abundance of caution” after a third party sampled some of the formula, which tested positive for bacteria.
“All product packaged that day (the day the formula that tested positive was manufactured), and the first production on the next day, was isolated for destruction and not distributed,” ByHeart said in the recall notice. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are now recalling all product produced during the entire production run.”

The recall includes the ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, Milk Based Powder with Iron for 0-12 months in 24-oz. containers.
The bacteria found — cronobacter — “can cause severe, life-threatening infections” such as sepsis or meningitis, according to the recall.
The company has not received any consumer complaints that would indicate any illness, to date, ByHeart officials said, and the company stressed that the recall is not related to ByHeart’s own manufacturing facility.
Customers who purchased ByHeart products should check the bottom of the can and dispose of products from batches 22273 C1, 22276 C1, 22277 C1, 22278 C1, and 22280 C1.
Should customers have any other questions or want to find out if the product they have is included in the voluntary recall, you can contact the company by emailing notices@byheart.com or by texting ByHeart at 1-909-506-2354.
