CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Officials have identified the people involved in a murder-suicide earlier in the week that left four people dead and another seriously injured in Ohio.
In a news release, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office said that based on evidence and the position of the dead people at the scene as well as preliminary autopsy reports, investigators believe that Theresa Cain, 46, was the one who shot three family members as well as her daughter, Samantha Cain, 20.
The dead family members were identified as Steven Cain, 50; William Felton, 74; Ethan Cain, 13; and Theresa, according to the sheriff’s office. Theresa was then believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident happened on Monday when law enforcement was at a house on Riebel Ridge Road for a civil service call. Neighbors told WCPO that the family at the house was being evicted.
As deputies approached the house, they heard multiple gunshot wounds from inside, according to WCPO. Clermont County’s special response team made their way into the house and located a total of five people who were shot.
Samantha remains in critical condition at the hospital. The sheriff’s office said they are closely watching her condition to see if she can provide any information including assisting investigators with answers about a motive.
WSB-TV reported that Steven was the lead singer of the Ohio-based band, Critical Khaos. Steven was also a native of Georgia and had relocated to Ohio. He was found dead along with three of his family members including his 13-year-old son, Ethan. His daughter is in the hospital.
