Former NBA guard Ben Gordon accused of punching McDonald’s security guard

CHICAGO — Former NBA player Ben Gordon is accused of punching a security guard in the face and throwing another to the ground when they attempted to escort him from a McDonald’s restaurant in Chicago early Friday, authorities said.

Gordon, 39, who played for the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic during his 11-year NBA career, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery causing bodily harm and battery making physical contact, the Chicago Tribune reported.

According to Chicago police, Gordon was being escorted out of the building after authorities received a call about a disturbance at 3:20 a.m., WFLD-TV reported. Police said Gordon struck a 29-year-old guard in the face and shoved a 21-year-old guard to the ground, according to the television station.

Both security guards refused medical help, The Associated Press reported.

Gordon was arrested at the scene, according to the Tribune.

The incident comes after Gordon was charged on Oct. 9 with assault, resisting arrest, contempt and child endangerment in New York for allegedly punching his young son at LaGuardia Airport, the AP reported.

Joshua Kirshner, an attorney representing Gordon, said the the boy is 10 or 11 years old, according to the news organization. A message was left with Kirshner on Saturday seeking comment, the AP reported.

Gordon was a No. 1 pick of the Bulls (third overall) in the 2004 NBA Draft, according to Basketball-Reference.com.
