Legendary comedian Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award next month during the 80th Golden Globes, according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Murphy, 61, will receive the award during the Jan. 10, 2023, ceremony, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The award is given to honor “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” according to the HFPA. The selection is made by the group’s board of directors.
The honorary award will be part of a broadcaster that is returning live for the first time since 2019, The Associated Press reported.

Murphy has been nominated for six Golden Globes, winning in 2007 for his role in the musical “Dreamgirls.” Murphy also received nominations for roles in “48 Hrs.,” “Trading Places,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” “The Nutty Professor” and “Dolemite Is My Name.”
“We’re honored to present this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award to the iconic and highly esteemed Mr. Eddie Murphy,” HFPA President Helen Hoehne said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be celebrating the lasting impact on film and television that his career -- in front of and behind the camera -- has had through the decades.”
Murphy will join a list of winners that includes Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Jane Fonda, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Audrey Hepburn, Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Sophia Loren and Robin Williams, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Murphy most recently starred in Amazon’s “Coming 2 America,” the sequel to his 1988 box-office hit, the entertainment news website reported.
