Baldwin family matriarch dies at 92, remembered by Alec, Hailey Bieber

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Carol Baldwin, mother to actors Alec, Stephen, Daniel and William as well as two daughters, died Thursday, her family announced.

In a statement posted by Alec Baldwin on Instagram, the family announced that Carol died in Syracuse at age 92.

Carol Baldwin was born and raised in Syracuse, and met her husband at Syracuse University before moving the family to Long Island. Carol Baldwin was a mother not only to six children, but leaves behind 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Baldwin battled breast cancer in 1991 and after beating the disease worked to open the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund on the campus of SUNY Stony Brook, with a second chapter later opened at SUNY Upstate University, the family said in its statement.

In his post, Alec Baldwin said, “My mother taught me about second acts. And third ones, too. She spent the last 25 years of her life as a fighter and a champion for the cause to which she devoted so much energy. We are all enormously proud of her accomplishments.”

Hailey Bieber, Carol Baldwin’s granddaughter, re-posted her uncle’s announcement on Instagram, adding the caption, “We love you grandma.”

Daniel Baldwin honored his mother with a photo of him with his mother and brothers, writing, “Mom and her children,” E! News reported.

Stephen posted a video of himself in prayer to his Instagram story saying simply, “I love you mom. Romans 8:28. Hebrews 11:1,” Entertainment Tonight reported.

No cause of death was reported.
