2 teens dead, 2 wounded in shooting outside Chicago high school; 1 victim identified

CHICAGO — Two teenagers have been killed and two others were wounded in a shooting outside of a Chicago high school, multiple media outlets are reporting.

The shooting happened outside Benito Juarez Community Academy in the Pilsen neighborhood, WMAQ reported.

Update 7:31 a.m. EDT Dec. 17: According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, one of the teens killed was identified as 15-year-old Brandon Perez, WLS-TV and WMAQ-TV reported.

Police said a 14-year-old boy was struck in the head and died at an area hospital, WMAQ reported. His name has not been released.

Two other victims were in good condition at area hospitals, the television station reported. A 15-year-girl sustained a graze wound to the thigh, and a 15-year-old boy was struck in the shoulder and thigh, police said.

Original report: WLS reported that the teen who was killed was a 16-year-old male. Another 16-year-old male has been taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a third 16-year-old male and a 16-year-old female were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to WLS, police did not say which of the other three victims died from their injuries.

WMAQ reported that the teen boy who was taken to the hospital in “traumatic arrest” has died from his injuries. WMAQ also reported that the other two victims both sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Fire officials told WLS that the shooting happened outside of the academy and one of the victims ran inside.

Police have given an all-clear for students inside the school, according to the Chicago Police Department.

According to WMAQ, police said that there are no suspects in custody nor have any been identified following the shooting.
