Surveillance video catches thieves raiding Methuen auto shop twice

METHUEN, Mass. — A little automotive shop at the corner of Oakland and Railroad in Methuen has been around since the 1940s and had never seen anything like what happened this past weekend.

Late Sunday into Monday morning, surveillance cameras recorded a man and woman pulling up to the shop, finding an open door and then just helping themselves to everything they could take -- twice.

Shop owner Eli Touma showed FOX25 where the thieves struck, taking everything they could carry.

“The most expensive item was a diagnostic tool,” Touma explained. “It was probably about $8,000 item.”

The video shows the thieves loading up their jeep, but when they see the cops they run.

An hour later, one of them comes back, we see him walk right in and 20 minutes later, driving back out with a car stolen right out of the garage.

“You know the way thieves think. When they see this happen, they see they can get away with it. It's like finding a pot of gold for them,” Touma said.

Al McClure lost all the tools he spent a lifetime gathering, but when people hear what happened, they are helping out.

“A lot of people have been bringing tools in, customers, friends, to help us get by,” McClure said.

But Eli isn't taking the robbery lying down. He's getting the word out and wants these crooks to pay.

“I want to catch these guys,” he told FOX25.
