DUXBURY, Mass. — The winter storm that struck Massachusetts early in the week has moved out, but many residents in Duxbury are stuck with lingering problems.
Roads are washed out from coastal flooding, cellars are full of water and driveways are gone.
Cell phone video shows the storm in action, massive waves crashing along Duxbury Beach, homes more than 40 feet from the water are in now in the surf.
"This was one of the worst ones in recent history from a flooding standpoint,” Tom Shiebler said.
Shiebler’s home is missing several shingles and the latticework.
"I saw them floating across the street from upstairs,” he said.
The biggest problem though, is all the rocks that were washed into the patio area.
"Incredibly loud with the rocks and the ocean pounding the wall. A lot of shaking in the house,” he said.
Sheibler’s neighbors don’t have it much better. When high tide rolled in around noon Tuesday driveways turned into rivers and fences were ripped from their hinges.
The silver lining in all of this is that many of the homes most impacted are currently vacant because the owners are out of town for the winter.
