BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) - Stop & Shop customers be aware, the store announced a recall of a popular veggie burger on Sunday. The store says it is removing all MorningStar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers because they may contain peanuts. Peanuts, an allergen, is not listed on the ingredient label, according to the store.
The product is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a peanut allergy, the store said.
The Stop & Shop recall follows a recall by Morningstar Farms.
The following product is included in this recall:
- MorningStar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers, 18.9 oz., UPC 2898971750, with a Better if Used Before Date of APR14 16 - JUN30 16
- MorningStar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers, 9.5 oz., UPC 2898939207, with a Better if Used Before Date of APR14 16 - JUN30 16
Stop and Shop says it has received no reports of illnesses, adding people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic and can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.
Customers who have purchased the burgers should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to the store for a full refund.
