DENMARK — The Stonehill College community is mourning the loss of a student who was killed in a boat crash Saturday while studying abroad.

Linsey Malia, a junior, was studying in Denmark for the semester and was on a boat with six other classmates in the Copenhagen Harbor when a personal watercraft crashed into them.

The 21-year-old was active on campus as a peer mentor, a teaching assistant, a member of the Moreau Honors Program and the school's mascot "Ace the Skyhawk" during events.

"Stonehill was my first choice, and I knew that if I got in, I would want to be the mascot. It’s cool being Ace because nobody knows who is under the head, so I can really get the crowd going and be as crazy as I want," she said in an interview with the alumni magazine in 2016.

"Linsey was a model student and member of the College community," said Martin McGovern, director of communications at Stonehill.

Friends and family have been posting memories about Malia on Facebook, mourning the loss of a young life.

According to CopenhagenPost.com, jetskiing in the Copenhagen harbor is illegal and so far eight people have been arrested in relation to crash.

Another American student died in crash, but she hasn't been identified, along with six others injured according to the CopenhagenPost.com.

There was a vigil in Copenhagen near the site of the crash Sunday afternoon and one on the Stonehill campus.

Boston 25 News will have more on Malia at 10 p.m.
