FALMOUTH, Mass. — A Steamship Authority bus caught on fire on Saturday morning while waiting to go pick up passengers.
The bus had been en route from the Palmer Avenue parking lot to the Thomas B. Landers Road parking lot to pick up passengers at around 11:40 p.m.
The driver of another bus alerted the driver that smoke was coming from the back of the vehicle. The driver the turned the bus around and as they made it back to the parking lot, they saw the fire start.
No passengers were on board at the time of the fire and the driver was able to escape the bus without sustaining any injuries.
The bus appears to be a total loss and as many as 15 other vehicles were damaged in some way. Steamship Authority is working with the owners of the cars affected by the fire.
The bus was approximately 2 years old and has a capacity for 39 people. Steamship Authority has 25 other shuttle buses in it's fleet to maintain service.
The Falmouth Fire and Police Departments responded and quickly put out the blaze.
