Testimonies resume in mob trial of Frank Salemme

BOSTON — Testimonies resumed Monday in the trial of former mobster Cadillac Frank Salemme, accused of killing a Boston nightclub owner.

Salemme, now 84, is accused of ordering a hit on Steve DiSarro in 1993; DiSarro's body was found in a Providence, Rhode Island mob grave in 2016.

On Friday, the jury visited the site where DiSarro's remains were found.

In federal court on Monday, FBI Special Agent Timothy Darling told the jury that after a full day of digging, a backhoe found pieces of human bone wrapped in fabric.

DiSarro's skeletal remains were eventually found about eight and a half feet below the surface.

According to Agent Darling, DiSarro's body was folded, and a rope was wrapped around his neck and body.

Lt. John Tutungia, who was on the stand last Thursday, was put back on Monday to discuss how the organized crime world worked with Salemme.

"Rent is a form of extortion imposed by levels of organized crime," he said.

Along with rent, there are bookmakers who take illegal wages on sporting events, he explained. He said that the MSP served 45 search warrants on bookmakers associated with Salemme on Aug. 28, 1992.
