AGAWAM, Mass. — When the gates open at Six Flags New England on April 9, park-goers will have several new rides to enjoy.
This year, there will be a virtual roller coaster with a Superman theme.
"We're marrying virtual reality while riding on a coaster, so we are excited to bring this technology to western Mass," said Jen McGrath with Six Flags New England.
VR coasters recently made their debut at Six Flags Over Georgia, but this will be the first to use the Superman theme.
Rus Ozana with American Coaster Enthusiasts has ridden close to 900 different roller coasters in his lifetime, and got a preview of what’s to come at Six Flags New England.
"It's totally immersive. as you look around, you're looking what's around you on either side of the screen. you have the ability to shoot at targets," said Ozana. “This is totally new, unique, first of its kind."
While the coaster will be ready on opening day, the free VR option is still a couple of months away.
But Six Flags is not done with the thrills. The family-friendly “Rockin Rodeo” was unveiled Tuesday and the “Fireball” will welcome guests to the Rockville section of the park.
“It's a seven-story loop coaster. And if you like going upside down and mega-thrills, this is the ride for you. And the best part about it is several of our riders will be sitting face to face," McGrath said.
