The Stop & Shop on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury was shut down Monday after inspectors found dead mice in the bakery and a dead rat near a trash can. Cleaning crews worked to sanitize the store in order to pass inspection.

The inspectional services investigation did not discover a cause for the mice infestation found or whether employees knew about the violations and did nothing.
"There was a discussion today with my staff and Stop & Shop's staff about them being aware. Understanding what's going on and they're as responsible as everybody else to report things," said Inspectional Services Department Commissioner William Christopher.
As soon as the store reopened, carts rolled in.
"Cinnamon bread with holes in it. I was concerned, but it looks pretty good in there now," said Tynetta Lawson from Roxbury told FOX25's Crystal Haynes.
Others were more leery, with one customer telling FOX25's Crystal Haynes it will be a while before a Stop & Shop grocery trip.
FOX25 has learned the Blue Hill Avenue store received a complaint for food borne illness. The customer reported her entire family suffered from stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea from bad Italian sausages bought there last week.
