BROCKTON, Mass. — A mother was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly barging into Brockton High School and threatening a teacher.
According to the police report, the situation began when a student got points off of her grade for turning an assignment in late. The student also had her seat moved in class for being disruptive.
Around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the high school for a disturbance. Brockton Schools Superintendent Kathleen Smith said the parent, who police identified as Carla DaRosa, was denied access at the school's security desk. While staff was helping make her an appointment DaRosa allegedly slipped off into the building. Police said she ran up to the second floor to threaten her daughter's English teacher, in front of a class full of students.
School officials said they will investigate DaRosa's allegations that the teacher was targeting her daughter, telling FOX25 in a statement:
"From the lengths Ms. DaRosa went to to gain access to the classroom to speak to her child's teacher, it's obvious that she has a complaint, and it is being looked into. Other than that, we can't discuss personnel matters."
Other parents told FOX25 they had similar experiences with the teacher in question and that the school district ignored their complaints.
"It's the type of relationship that she has with her students, a little on the unprofessional side," Tracy Gutierrez said. "The teacher talks about students with the other students."
Gutierrez claimed her daughter was also bullied by the teacher, and that she could understand DaRosa's frustration.
"I just know that I would never let any of my other children have that teacher," Gutierrez said. "My daughter will never have that teacher again."
In court, prosecutors claimed DaRosa ignored the school's security protocols and tried to force her way into the teacher's classroom.
"[DaRosa] started pushing on the door, hitting the [teacher] with it while saying, I'll (expletive) you up," a prosecutor told the judge.
DaRosa's attorney admitted the mother went to Brockton High School to confront the teacher, but denied claims she tried to force a classroom door open or violated security procedures.
"When she walked in, she provided the security officer with her license," the attorney said, "Security had her walk up to the classroom on the second floor with another security official. At point did she open the door, at no point did she allegedly assault or touch the teacher with the door."
Darosa was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
