A Marblehead mother is fighting the opioid and drug addiction epidemic in a unique way; she's written a play called "Recovery."
The play, which focuses on parents of children who battle addiction, is coming to Marblehead's Little Theatre on Saturday.
Anne Lucas wrote the play from her own experience. Her daughter is recovering from heroin addiction. The play focuses on three mothers and daughters who meet in rehab.
Lucas is hoping the play will help parents through the challenges of rehab and recovery.
"Nobody talks about the collateral damage of addiction. What happens to the family? What happens to the parents? I wanted to shine a light on this and encourage parents that they need recovery too. It’s not just that their children need a program—they do too," said Lucas.
In March, Lucas launched the play in New York City. Next year it will play overseas in Greece. There will be three performances of Recovery in Marblehead between Saturday and next Sunday. After each performance, there will be an open discussion held between the audience and a professional in the rehab industry.
