Racist, anti-Semitic graffiti found in Wakefield middle school bathroom

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – School officials and police in Wakefield are investigating after a swastika and racial slur were found on a wall.

A custodian found the vandalism in a boys bathroom near the auditorium at Galvin Middle School.

Parents who spoke to Boston 25 News said they’re surprised this type of crime would happen in a middle school.

“Probably more worrisome for the parents as to where they heard it and learned about it, for them I’m not even sure they’re old enough to know what it means,” Steve Breda said.

Breda says his 9-year-old son has been asking him about the incident, and they’ve had a serious conversation about racism and anti-Semitic symbols.

“He wasn’t quite sure what it was so I had to explain it to him a little bit about the history and what not,” the father said.

The school sent a letter to parents calling the graffiti “unacceptable and very disappointing. It is a clear violation of the core beliefs and values of the Wakefield community.”
