Public to weigh in on WooSox stadium at public hearing

WORCESTER, Mass. — The first public hearing before Worcester's economic development committee on the plan to build a new stadium for the Pawtucket Red Sox will happen Wednesday night.

The Standing Committee on Economic Development, who must make a recommendation on the proposal before it goes to the full City Council, will hear from residents and field questions about the deal to build a publicly financed stadium next to Kelley Square for the WooSox.

Team officials signed a deal with the city Aug. 17 to move the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox to a brand new stadium in Worcester. The city plans to borrow about $100 million to finance the construction.

The hearing at Worcester City Hall is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
