BELMONT, N.H. — A New Hampshire school is apologizing for a hasty decision at an awards celebration.

A Belmont High School freshman got a certificate at a sports banquet, but one name was crossed out and Keegan Donovan's name was added above it.

The teenager is autistic, but his sister says he still understood and was upset by the award.

“It’s an unfortunate mistake that everyone is upset. He gets it, I feel like every kid would get that when you see another name crossed out below yours,” Kylie Donovan said.

The principal says, the coach realized he was running out of awards and didn't want Keegan to walk away empty handed so he made the split second decision.

Now the school will send an apology letter to everyone involved.
